Geography of Japan
- Japans four main islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku though Japan is made up of many different small islands. Those four main islands are about 120 miles away from the mainland Japan does experience many earthquakes due to the continental plates. Also Japan's islands are covered by mountains, most are heavily forested which makes only about 15 percent on that land suitable to live on.
Environment of Japan
Air pollution seems to be a pretty big problem in Japan because of all the industry and urban centers. As you can see in the picture above Japan is very industrial. In the 1990's Japan was the fourth highest level of carbon dioxide emmisions due to industrial companies and factories which was about 1.09 billion metric tons per year. Another problem would be the pollution they find in the water, this may be because of the acid rain which can get into the water stored there. Since there is so much pollution in that country 29 mammal species are endangered, which include 33 species of birds and 537 plants.
